Water supply disrupted
ITANAGAR, June 01: Water supply at Naharlagun, Nirjuli and adjacent areas has been disrupted due to damage caused to the 300mm (dia) main DI pipeline by unknown person(s) today.

NYK organizes adventure training prog.
ITANAGAR, June 01: Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), Itanagar in collaboration with Young Mission Adventure Club organized an adventure training for youths of the state at Poma near here from May 25 to 30.
The training aimed at exposing the youths of the state to the adventure activities, keeping them physically and mentally fit, developing leadership quality and to get them acquainted with the state’s vast potential in adventure tourism. Training on rope knotting, coiling, rapelling, river crossing, river climbing etc were given to the participating youths by instructors Yomjum Yongam and Ragi Yongam.
27 youths from various districts attended the training.
APPDSU conducts career counseling workshop
ITANAGAR, June 01: All Papum Pare Pare District Students’ Union (APPDSU) conducted a career guidance and counseling workshop for students at Nikum Niya Hall, Nirjuli today.
The workshop was organized to guide the students of class X and XII to choose the right career.
Addressing the students and parents, APPDSU president Teli Duli said, “Many students made wrong career choices due to ignorance while many of them face dilemma over choosing the right career. He the workshop will help the students to choose the right career.

AVP’s advance training camp held
ITANAGAR, June 01: The valedictory function of ‘Pragat Varg’ (Advance Training Camp) of Arunachal Vikas Parishad (AVP) was held at Govt. Secondary School, Pitapool on May 30.
A total of 41 delegates, seven teachers and five volunteers from nine different communities from 10 districts attended the training. Besides group discussions and lectures, sessions on yoga, games and sports were held during the 10 days training programme.
Exhibition of bamboo crafts, drawing and painting made by the participants was also held besides a tree plantation programme in the school campus. The participanting trainees demonstrated some yogasans like suryanamaskar and shared their experiences they have gained during the training period.
Attending the valedictory function, Nyishi Elite Society President Bengia Tolum stressed the need for preserving the state’s rich indigenous faith and culture for identity.
While emphasizing the importance of hard work, Tolum suggested the participants to not rely on fate since there is no alternative or substitute to hard work to achieve success in life. He also stressed the need for discovering our true self.

Govt. constitutes committee to look into issues of Railway
ITANAGAR, June 01: The State Government has constituted a high level Committee with Secretary (Political) as Chairman, Secretary, (IPR), IGP (Law and Order), Deputy Commissioners of both Capital Complex and Papum Pare and Railway authorities as members to look into the affairs of Railway and suggest measures to be taken, according to an official release.
Apart from this, the State Chief Secretary held a meeting with the DRM, Rangiya Rail Division on May 29 where concerns of the state government and its people regarding checking of ILP, construction of bridge over Pachin and Dikrong rivers and reservation of job for local unemployed youths in Railways were raised. Further, feasibility study to run goods train will also be conducted as decided in the meeting. Running of Chair car to Guwahati and Rajdhani Express to Delhi were also discussed.
The decision on these matters would be taken once the study is conducted and the said committee submits its recommendations, the release added.
Farewell given to retiring health officers
ITANAGAR, June 01: A function was held to bid farewell to two veterans of Directorate of Health Services (DHS) on attaining the age of superannuation from their respective offices today.
Dr. Hage Taki, Joint DHS (NVBDCP) and Dr. Tamut Taloh, Joint DHS (Family Welfare) were accorded warm and affectionate farewell by the officers and staff of the health department on their retirement on superannuation after rendering more than 30 years of meritorious service.

Dr. Taloh joined the Health Department in 1983 as JMO at District Hospital Aalo. He served in various places like Ziro, Pasighat etc. before his promotion to the present post in 2011. He is known for his discipline, dedication, sincerity and unique innovative approaches. His contribution towards the improvement and development of the present health care system in Pasighat is still remembered by many.
Earlier in March, two senior officers from the Health Directorate Dr. Dani Durii, Jt. DHS (Leprosy) and Dibakar Deb, Assistant (Establishment) were given warm farewell on their retirement.
Dr. Dani had joined the Health Department in 1983 as MO at Ziro. He also served in far flung areas like Tezu, Daporijo, Bomdila etc. in various capacities. He was promoted to the post of Jt. DHS (Lep.) in 2013.
Describing him as most sincere and dedicated officer, Dr. Hage Tam, present Jt.DHS (Lep), extolled his wonderful sense of humor and zest for life.
Deb had joined as LDC in the Health Directorate in 1977. At that time, the Directorate was in Shillong. Since then, he had been serving in different sections of the Directorate including a stint of deputation at Rajiv Gandhi University formerly known as Arunachal University.
“He had a long, productive and blemish free career,” said Dr. K. Nishing, DHS.
3 Arunachalee boys graduate from NDA
ITANAGAR, June 01: Three Arunachalee boys namely, Cdt. Shimon Doke Lendo (Airforce), Cdt. Yumlam Jose (Army), Cdt. Hage Kapa (Army) were among the 360 cadets, who graduated from National Defence Academy (NDA). They set their “final best foot forward” and marched through the portals of the prestigious (Arjun) Khetarpalparade ground on March 31 at the passing out parade of the 126th course of NDA at Khadakwasla, Pune.
Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, Chief of Air Staff, inspected the passing out parade and complemented the 360 graduates on their immaculate turnout, excellent drill movements and high standard of parade.
Cdt. Shimon Doke Lendo (Airforce) passed out as Divisional Cadet Captain of November Squadron which begged the Chief of Staff Banner presented to the champion Squadron and stood Second best in flying of passing out course. He is the eldest son of Tahi Doke and Pekpi Karlo Doke of Sikar village under Gensi circle in West Siang district.
Cdt. Yumlam (Army) Jose passed out as the Cadet Sergeant Major of Charlie Squadron and was the Academy football team captain. He is the son of Lt. Yumlam Talok and Yumlam Yajong of village Yumlam in Kurung Kumay district.
Cdt. Hage Kapa (Army) passed out as the Divisional Cadet Captain of Mike Squadron and stood as extremely good cross country runner. He is the son of Hage Tatung and Hage Mamung of Hari village in Lower Subansiri district.
All three of them are the product of Sainik School, Imphal and joined the NDA on June 21, 2011.

Balijan battling power crisis
Dear Editor,
The continues electricity problem in Balijan area is creating chaos and agony among public. Power department conducted bill clearance drive but after the drive got over electricity problem started again which is prevailing till date. Due to the power failure public of Balijan is facing hardship. They are living in darkness and hot weather is making life miserable. As the summer heat is in height it is very difficult to spend day and night without power. Therefore, I appeal to the power department to solve this electricity problem immediately.

It has been seven months since the date of our appointments and we are still waiting for our first salary. We were appointed on the basis of Right to Education bill passed by the parliament and as a rays hope for the quality education in Arunachal Pradesh .So, it is our sincere request to the education department not to recruit anyone in the future from APTET in SSA and save them from mental harassment . Upper Subansiri has miles to go

Through the column of your esteemed daily we would like to draw kind attention towards the circumstances of our Upper Subansiri district. Still today there has not been proper development and district has not progressed. After four years we went to our home district and found that everything has become worse. Be it drainage system, road communications, school infrastructures etc, everything is in bad shape. In fact situation was much better years ago. We hope that newly elected and selected MLAs will be able to solve the problems efficiently.

Many Indians still have no access to toilet facilities
The abduction, gang rape and lynching of two teenage girls at Baduan in Uttar Pradesh when they were going to relieve themselves last Tuesday have once again exposed how vulnerable is rural woman’s life. The rape and murder of the two teenagers, aged 12 and 14, has generated headlines in India and beyond in an echo of the uproar over the fatal gang rape of a student on a bus in Delhi in December 2012. But the circumstances which left the girls vulnerable to the killers who pounced on them in the fields are not unusual in India.
UNICEF estimates that almost 594 million — nearly 50 per cent of India's population — defecates in the open, with the situation particularly acute in impoverished rural areas such as the Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh. It is tragedy that till today large number of poor people living in rural areas has no access to toilet facilities and defecates in open field. In Arunachal too people living in interior areas still defecates in jungle which pose serious health hazards. Prime Minister Narendra Modi during election campaigning had stressed on the need for providing toilets to every household with his slogan "Toilets first, temple later." Hope he sticks to his words and ensure that every Indians have access to toilet facilities.
